A Mindful 15-Minute Mid-Year Reset Ritual

Mid-year can feel like a turning point. Sometimes in a dramatic, reinvent-your-life way, and sometimes in a quieter way where you notice your mind is busier, your to-do list is louder, and your space starts to collect little piles of later and you feel like you need to start over in some small way.

If you’ve been craving a mid-year reset but don’t have the energy for a full overhaul, this little ritual will help you take small small actions and organise your thoughts.

This simple ritual is designed to help you clear mental clutter and come back to what matters in just 15 minutes. It’s calming, lightly mystical, and of course, practical.

What is a mid-year reset?

A mid-year reset is a simple pause to reflect on what’s working, release what’s weighing you down, and choose a small next step. It’s less about productivity and more about feeling grounded and leaning into the energy of reset.

Why a mid-year reset helps

When you’re overwhelmed, big plans can feel like another task. A micro-reset does something different.

It gives your nervous system a clear signal: we’re safe, we’re here, we can soften.

Small, intentional actions can create momentum. They also rebuild trust with yourself, because you’re choosing something you can actually complete.

The 15-minute mid-year reset ritual

What you’ll need

  • A glass of water or a warm cup of tea
  • A pen + notebook (or notes app)
  • One small surface to reset (desk, bedside table, kitchen counter) or multiple if you fancy.

Step 1: Reset one tiny space

Pick a “micro-space” and tidy it. Keep it intentionally small.

Ideas:

  • Clear your bedside table and reset (chargers, cords, book, lip balm, water, etc.)
  • Wipe down your desk and clear away anything you don’t need
  • Tidy one shelf or drawer
  • Organise a stack of letters
  • Put away the three items that have been hovering in the same spot for days
  • Clear the kitchen sink and wipe the counter right around it
  • Reset your coffee or tea station (mugs back in place, a quick wipe)
  • Tidy your entryway drop zone (the spot where you drop post, keys, bag, shoes , receipts, and notes)
  • Clear one chair that has become a clothes pile
  • Straighten your pillow stack or fold one throw blanket
  • Clear your bathroom counter
  • Empty your handbag and put the essentials back
  • Clear your phone: close tabs, delete one app from the home screen that you don’t use, or tidy one folder (This is a good time to review your subscriptions also)
  • Put away the first five things you see that belong somewhere else

As you do it, try this reframe:

I’m not cleaning. I’m creating a landing place for myself.

Step 2: Take a Break

Once you’ve cleared the space, make yourself your favourite drink and sit down in a comfy spot with your your journal or a notebook, and a pen.

Step 3: The “Keep, Release, Invite” journal reset

Next, your going to flow journal, where you don’t overthink what you write and you just let it flow out onto the page. You could set a timer for each of these prompts if it helps you tune into that energy.

What to keep:

What’s working right now that I want to protect?

Think: one habit, one relationship, one routine, one boundary, one belief.

What to release:

What am I carrying that I’m ready to loosen my grip on?

Think: a pressure, a comparison, a “should,” a storyline, a cluttered expectation.

What to invite in:

What do I want more of in the next few weeks?

Think: steadiness, creativity, rest, clarity, play, softness, focus.

When you’re done, circle one word from your page. That’s your anchor.

Step 4: Choose one “anchor action”

Pick one small action you can do today or tomorrow that supports your circled word.

Examples:

  • If your word is rest: set a 20-minute early night alarm
  • If your word is clarity: write tomorrow’s top 3 priorities on a sticky note
  • If your word is softness: take a slow shower and put on something comfortable after
  • If your word is focus: remove one distracting app from your home screen

Keep it simple. Choose one action that says: I’m listening to myself.

Make your mid-year reset your own (optional add-ons)

If you want to add a little extra ritual energy, try one of these:

  • Light a candle as a “start” signal, then blow it out when you’re done
  • Open a window for one minute to refresh the air
  • Add a scent you love (lavender, citrus, rose) to anchor the moment

These aren’t required. They’re just small sensory cues that can make the reset feel more intentional.

A little reminder

If you try this ritual, let it be imperfect and real. The point is the return.
